We first started strutting our footwork on the court, clad in our Bata shoes and tight fitting shorts, playing with either tennis, rubber or really whatever matter of object we can kick about.
Fast forward time and here we are, the Montforto team, a group of light-hearted and fun loving individuals who, with their love for soccer and their camaraderie in hand, have finally managed to form a team with a mish-mash of experience and youthful exuberance.
Montforto is basically a merger of two very different sets of footballing sides from their Alma Mater, Montfort Secondary School. With experienced individuals from Varsity teams like Team Captain Darrel Teo and the youthful energy of players like his brother Darric Teo, it was only about 4 years back did these two teams first come together, in what was to be the start of a brotherly camaraderie that only football could provide.
Interestingly enough the two teams first started out challenging one another to matches, with the youngsters always being on the losing end, but perhaps the blessing was as such, as through the years both sets of teams have learnt to play together and have adapted to each team’s style of play, using the anchor of experience and mixing it up with the zest that the more flamboyant players provide.
Week in week out we’re sweating it out on Sunday mornings at whichever place is possible, top it up with the occasional match and of cause catching our favourite EPL teams in action, you could very well say soccer is within the souls of everyone of us.
Beyond that comes the friendship, the bonds and the memories that we share one another, hence the name Montforto, as we’ve come to realize that it was only because we shared so much our lives with one another in school that our friendship and brotherhood has withstood everything that’s been thrown at us.
We’re here to play football. We’re here to play the beautiful game.
